To truly learn graphic design, you’ll need to be proficient in graphic design software. Most designers use Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop for the majority of their work. Graphic designers often specialize in brand-centric work designing visual elements for companies. They use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and other design tools to convey messages and ideas.

For my contribution to the senior show, I aim to showcase the breadth and diversity of the graphic design field, particularly in areas that may not always receive mainstream recognition. One such area that I’m passionate about is sports creative, which I believe offers a rich and often overlooked terrain for graphic design exploration. In my senior show exhibit, I intend to highlight the intersection of graphic design and sports marketing, focusing specifically on the unique challenges and opportunities presented by the NASCAR industry. Through a series of dynamic and visually engaging posters and a custom-designed card deck, I aim to demonstrate how graphic design can play a pivotal role in capturing the excitement, energy and brand identity of NASCAR. By showcasing my work in this niche area, I hope to shed light on the vast potential of graphic design beyond traditional boundaries, illustrating its ability to thrive in diverse contexts and industries.
Many of our classes pair students with clients — small businesses, non-profits, cultural institutions — to give students the experience of solving design challenges that will have real, tangible impact. As the nation’s first and only public college of art and design, MassArt has spent 150 years demonstrating the truly amazing things that happen when world-class education is an option for every deserving student. Since the software that designers use is constantly updated and changing, one needs to be educated on the new trends and tools. Derrick regularly updates the course material as new software updates are released. All students enrolled for the course will get a lifetime access to these new and updated course lessons.
We’ll carefully manage any future changes to courses, or the support and other services available to you, if these are necessary because of things like changes to government health and safety advice, or any changes to the law. That's usually an IELTS 6.0 qualification (with a minimum of 5.5 in all sections). And, if you need help, we offer an intensive pre-sessional English course. If you have relevant qualifications or work experience, we may be able to count this towards your entry requirements.

The Jarvis Center connects students with designers, creators, and experts-in-residence through a series of regular events and workshops. The school’s partnerships with leading organizations provide students with invaluable field work and research opportunities. The Weissman School of Arts and Sciences at Baruch College provides a comprehensive educational experience with an emphasis on graphic design studies within a broader liberal arts context. All students at Weissman are encouraged to establish a solid academic foundation through a wide array of courses, ranging from English and history to fine arts and Black and Latino studies. These courses are led by a distinguished faculty, recognized for their excellence and commitment to student success.
After completing this graphics design certification students will be able to independently design foundational creative projects, including business card, brochures, ads, websites and manuals. Although many graphic designers pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), some use online courses and certification programs to gain experience and demonstrate their mastery of basic design concepts. There are a plethora of graphic design classes to choose from that teach learners core principles such as color theory, design theory, design process, logo design, interface design, and more. Located in the heart of Detroit and integrated into its cultural life, CCS educates artists and designers to be leaders in creative professions. A private, fully accredited college, the school enrolls nearly 1,400 students pursuing BFA, MA and MFA degrees. It also offers non-credit courses through its Continuing and Precollege Studies programs and opportunities for youth through its Community Arts Partnerships programs.
I think that process of examining my own work, critically, as well as the work of the team I have here at The Whitney, is one that I use every day, and contributes to the success of everything we do. If you're considering a career in graphic design (or simply want to gain some quick new skills), this course is designed with beginners in mind. The basics are covered, from images and layouts to logo creation and common design issues to avoid.
A good foundation in graphic design theory and practical application will help you hit the ground running. You will also need a working knowledge of desktop design software, such as Illustrator, InDesign etc., and image-editing packages such as Photoshop. For an in-depth knowledge of all of these, you can choose self-directed study through a good online graphic design course or certification that will provide you with proper foundation in various areas of graphic design. Give yourself a prompt, such as creating a logo for a health care technology start-up that focuses on well-being, or assist in designing a series of social media posts for the launch of a cosmetics brand. In your portfolio, you’ll want to include the brief, the final designs, and any positive feedback you received. Since graphic design is such a visual field, a portfolio is the best way to demonstrate to potential employers your unique skills and work.
Some weeks are different due to how we schedule classes and arrange on-campus sessions. The team includes academics, professional practitioners, and technical staff. Graduate teaching assistants or trained postgraduate research students may also have input into your teaching under the supervision of the module leader.
If you visit us on campus, we will show you the facilities and introduce you to staff and students. If you are unable to attend the interview, you can submit a portfolio instead. The interview will take approximately 15 minutes but you should allow one hour for the whole interview process as you will be offered the opportunity to view the facilities and meet appropriate staff and students. We use the interview to find out more about you, to better understand your aspirations and interests, and to explore why you want to study with us.
